About the Team


The Kern Regional Crime Laboratory Crime Scene Response Team is comprised of Criminalists from each analytical section of the laboratory. These individuals are on-call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, to assist law enforcement agencies with the investigation of various types of crime scenes. This service is provided automatically to all law enforcement agencies within Kern County, and agency representatives may obtain support by calling the Laboratory’s general number - (661) 868-5367. Officials from law enforcement agencies that reside outside of Kern County, but desire crime scene response from Kern Regional Crime Laboratory personnel, should contact the District Attorney or Assistant District Attorney for authorization.

Crime scene team members have training in proven crime scene processing techniques, as well as specialized training in areas such as bloodstain pattern identification and documentation and bullet trajectory documentation. Crime scene team members will assist and work with requesting law enforcement agencies and their investigators in the processing of crimes scenes providing digital crime scene photography, notes and rough sketches, scene measurements, crime scene diagrams using various computer-aided software (for officer-involved-shootings or if requested), latent print processing, shoe and tire track documentation, biological field tests for blood and semen, bloodstain enhancement and documentation, field screening test for lead residue, and evidence search and collection including DNA.
